“YOU JUST GOT LAID OFF!”

You Just Got Laid Off is a webart piece made as an emotional response to the massive layoffs happening in the tech industry, my own experience having a rescinded offer, and the lackluster approach that many of these CEO’s have in writing these letters. Since the timing, the wording, and the percentage of people who were laid off felt suspiciously similar across the board, all of these decisions and letters felt impersonal, devoid of human consciousness, and questions the relationships between individuals and their employers. You Just Got Laid Off stands in direct response to this, where it cycles through every company that has laid off an employee at a tech company since the start. It also generates a “generic” letter, taking lines from major corporations which interweave together to create something that is parseable, but reflects the lack of thought and empathy put into layoff letters.
