This appalling story was almost certainly written by the Author of {The Locust Grove}, but it cannot at this point be decided whether it is a continuation of that Writing after a lacuna (or perhaps merely an hiatus in its composition), or else a text inscribed in another time or place, since the respective originals were found in widely disjunct locations in the archives — a fact that also makes it impossible to dismiss the suspicion that, even though the two Writings appear to concern the same person, they may have different Authors.

It is hard to reconcile the introduction of this Writing with the opening of its apparent augmentary Writing {"Peripatikos Soter"}, where the narrator describes coming upon the Temple ruins in a quite dissimilar way.
