Jon was the man who was supposed to care about me for the rest of our natural lives. He was the adventurous Jake of my father's bedtime stories. We met in our second year at Boston U and precariously balanced two strong-willed egos for seven years after graduation.
I didn't consider ten years to be the rest of our natural lives. Evidently, even with a fine education he felt that it was.
I think it was the years he went to Harvard Law where he learned a language different from mine. But he did let me paint. He said he liked what I painted.
